Race Summary
Oscar Piastri continued his championship momentum at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix, securing his fifth win of the season. While Piastri controlled the race from the front, his teammate Lando Norris had to fight back after losing position to Max Verstappen at the start. Verstappen initially took the lead through an aggressive undercut strategy during the first round of pit stops, but his race eventually unraveled due to a gamble on tyre strategy and late-race incidents.
The final ten laps were defined by high drama following a safety car period caused by Kimi Antonelli’s engine failure. At the restart, Verstappen, struggling on the hard tyre compound, was overtaken by Charles Leclerc and George Russell. A frustrated Verstappen then collided with Russell at Turn 5 while trying to reclaim the position, resulting in a time penalty that plummeted the defending champion to the edge of the points.
Behind the podium finishers, Nico Hülkenberg delivered one of the standout performances of the day by guiding his Sauber to fifth place, holding off a charging Lewis Hamilton. This result helped Ferrari overtake both Mercedes and Red Bull for second in the Constructors’ Championship. Meanwhile, Piastri extended his lead in the Drivers’ Championship to ten points over Norris as the season moves toward the North American leg.
