Race Summary
The 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix saw Lando Norris deliver a landmark victory at the Hungaroring, securing McLaren’s 200th win in Formula One. Despite starting third, Norris managed to climb through the order as polesitter Charles Leclerc and teammate Oscar Piastri engaged in a strategic battle at the front. Norris’s victory, his fifth of the season, allowed him to reduce the gap to Piastri in the Drivers’ Championship to just nine points.
Strategic tire management and late-race incidents defined the podium battle behind Norris. Oscar Piastri mounted a fierce challenge in the final laps, closing to within DRS range of Norris, but a failed overtaking attempt on the penultimate lap cost him time and he finished less than a second behind. Meanwhile, George Russell secured third place after Charles Leclerc was penalized for “illegal” defensive maneuvers under braking, which the stewards deemed erratic driving.
In the midfield, Gabriel Bortoleto provided one of the standout performances of the day, finishing sixth to secure Sauber’s best result of the season. Fernando Alonso also had a strong outing, finishing fifth and earning Aston Martin its highest points tally since the previous year. Max Verstappen had a frustrating afternoon, finishing down in ninth place after an undercut strategy was thwarted by heavy traffic.
