Race Summary

Lando Norris delivered a masterclass at the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, converting his pole position into a hard-fought victory at the Red Bull Ring. Although Norris maintained the lead at the start, he spent much of the first stint under intense pressure from teammate Oscar Piastri, with the two McLaren drivers trading the lead on lap 11 in a thrilling wheel-to-wheel battle. Norris reclaimed the top spot later that same lap and managed a final gap of 2.6 seconds to secure McLaren’s first win in Austria since 2001.

The race was dramatically altered on the opening lap when Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli collided at the Remus hairpin. Antonelli locked his brakes and slid into the side of Verstappen’s Red Bull, ending the afternoon for both drivers immediately. This marked Verstappen’s first retirement of the season at his team’s home track and significantly tightened the championship battle, allowing Norris to close within 15 points of Piastri in the Drivers’ Championship standings.

Beyond the battle at the front, Ferrari enjoyed a productive weekend with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finishing third and fourth respectively.
